Introduction to Adobe Illustrator (Creative Cloud)

This introductory Adobe Illustrator demonstration course will give you a basic understanding of the benefits of vector graphics when creating talk slides, journal illustrations and conference posters based on your scientific findings.
We will discuss some general principles such as file formats, color spaces, resolution requirements and the common workflow of Illustrator and Photoshop.
You will also gain an insight into the various creative possibilities of Illustrator for creating diagrams and implementing complex figures through the use of:

1. Various drawing tools
2. Selection types and grouping
3. Layering and clipping
4. Image embedding and conversion of pixel graphics into vector files
5. Clean object arrangement by rulers, guides and alignments
6. Object transformations
More complex modifications like shape builder and various line width

If you have Illustrator available, I will provide a set of files that will allow you to join me while I am generating a complex figure from scratch. Otherwise, I recommend to get in touch with our IT for the installation and connection of your MPI-Account with the Creative Cloud.

Cheers and see you soon,
Veit Grabe
