IMPRS Curriculum

Our curriculum, in a nutshell, consists of lecture series and scientific skill courses in chemical ecology, an annual student symposium, supervision through cross-disciplinary thesis advisory committees (TACs), transferable skill courses, scientific outreach activities and a multitude of career development measures. As of January 2020, we have a credit point system in place, outlined in the IMPRS guidelines. Doctoral researchers obtain an IMPRS certificate detailing their IMPRS acitivities upon PhD completion. Please find an overview of transferable skill courses here. These can be online or in-person workshops on academic writing, data visualization, presentation, conflict-, project- and time-management and many more. They are offered jointly with the MPI for Biogeochemistry and taught by external instructors. [more]

International scientists are welcome to join a German Class. Entry level (A1) courses are organized by the Beutenberg Campus e.V. Advanced level courses (A2 - B1) are offered by the MPI-CE. Courses are subsidized by the MPI-CE for IMPRS students and MPI-CE international co-workers if 80% of the course units are attended. At the end of each course, participants receive a certificate indicating the respective language proficiency level. [more]

Scientific outreach is an integral part of the IMPRS curriculum. Please find information on how to engage in outreach activities here. [more]
The IMPRS annual symposium is the central event in the IMPRS curriculum. Doctoral researchers, IMPRS faculty and guest speakers come together for scientific exchange and networking. Annual participation with either a talk or poster contribution is mandatory. [more]
Regular meetings with thesis advisory committees are part of the IMPRS curriculum and designed to monitor scientific progress and mediate potential conflicts of interests through independent TAC members. [more]
